Another Winner for RayYao

Gee, Ray. Just when I think I've bought all the books of yours I can use, you bring out another one! True to form, Ray delivers practical, easy-to-understand lessons (in this case, AngularJS) that even green as grass newbies like me can cope with. I think I said it before in a previous review, but if Ray can keep producing these simple, reasonably-priced tutorials, I guess I'll keep buying them.

Terrific for Instruction at the Ground Level

Depending on where you're coming from and what you are looking to do with Angular --- the time it takes to get familiar with the language varies. The basic nuts & bolts are relatively easy to learn, but the framework contains what amounts to a Lot of concepts...so how far you go with it could take a while. BUT, for my purposes --novice level-- I needed an experienced Angular programmer there to walk me thru. And Mr. Yao does just that-

His text he present here is not too long for entry-level programmers, nor is it too short. I found it to be middle-of-the-road Just Right for my speed and ability. It's laid out with the Chapters broken down into the major 'food groups' -- thus, easy-peasy. And there is a very nice, abundant Appendices, too boot!

I've learned that one doesn't need to really learn Javascript in addition, and that frankly would have just compounded the task at hand. But Angular exists in its own kind of sphere, so that was a relief as I'm not too terribly conversant in that Lang.. All in all I'm quite pleased with the purchase & I thank the author for his help

Solid Beginner's Guide! Highly Recommended!

AjgularJS has been on my "things to learn" list for quite some time now and I have been searching for a solid guide to help me get my foot through the door. I decided to go with this guide written by Ray Yao and it has been nothing but outstanding thus far. The steps that are provided are very easy to follow and well organized. There was never a point where I was confused or needing to look elsewhere for solutions. This was one of the best choices I have made in terms of a self-guide for anything that I had wanted to learn. Thank you, Raymond!

ONE OF THE FIRST WORKS OF A FAMOUS NEW TESTAMENT ARCHAEOLOGIST

Sir William Mitchell Ramsay (1851-1939) was a Scottish archaeologist and New Testament scholar, as well as Professor of Classical Archaeology at Oxford University. He is now probably most remembered for his studies (in what is now Turkey and Asia Minor) of St. Paul's missionary journeys and of Christianity in the early Roman Empire, and for his endorsement of the historical accuracy of Luke and the Book of Acts.

This 1892 book (The "Mansfield College Lectures") was intended "to exemplify to younger students the method of applying archaeological, topographical, and numismatic evidence to the investigation of early Christian history." He states in the preface to the fourth edition that he "had no theory as to the composition or the date of (the Book of) Acts. He sought only for external and objective grounds on which to rest a rational criticism of the trustworthiness of the historical statements in the book ... he found that, out of the facts which led him to set a low value on the evidence of the book, several were founded on erroneous views.... In the attempt to attain and to justify an answer to the fundamental questions determining the historical authenticity of Acts as a picture of Roman society in the eastern provinces, the proposed single chapter grew into eight." He admits that "For a long time I failed to appreciate the accuracy of the narrative in Acts. It has cost me much time, thought, and labour to understand it."

The first part of the book somewhat resembles a "travelogue," as Ramsay retraces Paul's steps on his missionary journeys, and the settings of the writing of his epistles. The later chapters deal with early Christian writings, writings about the Christians (e.g., Pliny), and the actions of Rome toward the Christians.

Interestingly for the modern reader, Ramsay is no "fundamentalist" in the modern sense. He writes, for example, "I do not clearly comprehend the received text in this place. If I were required to advance a theory about the passage, it would be that the author of Acts, reproducing the account given by Paul, had not clearly caught the sense and sequence of his narrative; and that we have here a trace of the imperfect medium through which a report substantially emanating from Paul himself has reached us." He also is receptive to textual corrections to the Textus Receptus.

This book, like all of Ramsay's works, remains in print today as a testimony to its continuing value to students of the New Testament.

uses archeology findings to give additional information about Acts.

From these he obtained more information about the culture and other aspects of that time. He uses this new information to give more insight to the activities described in the Bible book of Acts.

About the Author
Currently Membership Chair for the International Association for the Study of Dreams, David Gordon, Ph.D. has been in private practice since 1973 when he obtained his doctoral degree from Case Western Reserve University in Cleveland, Ohio. During the past twenty years he has presented workshops, led dreamsharing groups and hosted a call-in radio program Dreamworks. Dr. Gordon has lectured on the topic of dreams, myth, and spirituality at his Dreamwork Institute in Norfolk, Virginia, and throughout the United States and Canada.

This book helped me in a time when I most needed it. It completely changed my relationship with my dreams and taught me so much about how to interpret them in a very personal and meaningful way. The combination of mindfulness, dreams, and Joseph Campbell's hero's journey was very powerful for me.

All Ye Lands a wonderful history book for a Catholic homeschool.

I am very impressed with this book.
The chapter that really impressed me is chapter two, pre-history. It is consise & logically presented. This is what scientists say. This is what our faith says. Then examples of why we believe this or that are given, though not in an us verses them or any kind of a debate format. Scientists are not made to look stupid & faith isn't presented as blind. This chapter is very well written. Critical thinking is needed by the reader but I would guess that homeschoolers using this book would have that.
The whole book teaches world cultures through the eyes of a Catholic.
