Julien Bayle

Julien Bayle owns his Master Degree of biology & computer sciences in 2000. After several years in pure IT System Design, he founded Design the Media early 2010 in order to provide his own courses, training & tools for art fields. As a digital artist, he designed some huge new media art installations, like the permanent exhibition of La Maison des Cinématographies de la Méditerranée (Château de la Buzine) in Marseille, France, in 2011. He also works as a new media technology consultant for some private & public entities. As an A/V live performer, he plays his cold electronic music from New York to Marseille, where he actually lives. Arduino framework is one of his first electronic hardware studies early 2005 and he designed the famous protodeck controller with some opensource framework too. As an art & technology teacher, also certified by Ableton in 2010, he teaches a lot of courses about the digital audio workstation named Ableton Live, about the real-time graphical programming framework Max6 and also about Processing and Arduino.

As a minimalist digital artist, he works at the crossroads of sound, visual and data. I came to amazon to read the reviews because i thought maybe my ability wasn't the reason I couldn't learn from this book. The author is a French artist, not a teacher or author. The book jumps around and can't be followed by a beginner, at least not me. The grammar causes you to have to read one sentence 5 times to maybe understand what it means. I didn't pay for this book so I am only out the time i put into trying to read it, but it's bad enough to write a bad review for a free book. I suggest looking elsewhere.

Not about C

I'm not going to quibble about grammar. What annoyed me was the lack of focus on C. In a booked entitled "C Programming for Arduino." I'm actually surprised no one else mentioned this.

There isn't really a discussion of C per se. Programming the Arduino requires you to write in C/C++ so all books about Arduino discuss programming in C. A book that specifies it is about programming in C should emphasize actually learning C. The reader is left with a broken understanding of C. There's no mention of what the full C would look like coming out of the IDE - where's my main()? Can I alter memory addresses directly? Why might I do that?. How do I program the Arduino with a typical C toolset? The author covers material not discussed in the pages I noted above. He leads the newcomer through the Arduino world. Although he does so in a somewhat muddled way. There is good material here and if you are ok with a very informal approach then the book is fine. It just isn't a book on programming an Arduino in C. It's a fairly nice book about programming an Arduino in general. I really hope the author wasn't mislead by Packt into using a title that is incomplete at best and purposefully misleading in the worst case.

The author should have included some discussion of topics such as that discussed in the previously mentioned links. If he had then most of the material could have remained the same. Leave out the other languages and frameworks. I'd give bonus points for showing how to implement code from Processing using C instead. Use QT or some other GUI framework for visualization.

Other quibbles:
Leave out the very brief summary of electricity. If the reader needs that then they really need more than is provided. There are other books for that. That section should have maybe been a glossary or appendix if that.

There is a decent amount of content in this book, but it's hidden behind some appalling prose. Despite a list of *twenty* editors, proofreaders and reviewers in the credits, this book reads as though it has had no editing whatsoever.

Nicole Smith is the author of Allie the Allergic Elephant: A Children s Story of Peanut Allergies and Cody the Allergic Cow: A Children s Story of Milk Allergies and Chad the Allergic Chipmunk: A Children s Story of Nut Allergies.
She became interested in writing a children s book on peanut allergies after discovering her son, Morgan, has life threatening peanut allergies.
She is the author of the Web site, Allergicchild.com, supporting families and communities dealing with severe food allergies.
Nicole was raised on several military bases, but has called Colorado Springs home for many years. She graduated from George Washington University in Washington, D. C. and went on to work in the field of finance for several years.
Nicole has served as Treasurer for the non-profit organization, Kids With Food Allergies, Inc. and has helped school districts across the United States manage food allergies and create safe environments for food allergic children.
Nicole is currently serving on the Food Allergy Initiative (FAI) Advocacy Steering Committee to help build a strong nationwide presence for the food allergy community in the public policy arena, and to actively seek to increase federal funding for food allergy research.

Bad lessons for children!

As a mother of 2 little girls with severe peanut and tree nut allergies, I thought this book would be perfect to bring to school to help teach her class about food allergies. I have to say that I am surprised that the author, who has a severely allergic son of her own, was so irresponsible in how she wrote this book. The book repeatedly explains how Allie wants to eat peanuts so badly and be like the other elephants who ALL eat peanuts. It says how her friends all feel so bad for her. This isn't the attitude I want to enforce in my girls or their friends. The worst part of the book is that there are pages dedicated to showing the types of reactions Allie can have with funny illustrations with "Oh no... Allie is having hives from the peanuts! Do you want to see Allie get hives?" Only after 5 similar pages of reactions does it say... "Or would you rather see Allie stay healthy and happy?" It's really ridiculous and irresponsible to give children a reason to wonder what reactions look like and if they'd like to watch a friend go through them! Allie is shown refusing peanuts from a friend but only asking if there's peanuts in other foods. Children must be taught to never take food from friends when the suffer severe food allergies, not just ask another 5 year old if there's peanuts! The book even ends with "Allie just wants to be a normal elephant..." Um, my daughters are normal, they just deal with a food allergy. How can a mom of a severely allergic child think this book sends a great message? Wow. I most certainly won't be reading it to my daughter's class! I DO however recommend "Food Allergies and Me" by Juniper Skinner which I ordered at the same time as this book. It truly has all the right lessons and sends the right messages to allergic children and their friends!

Cute book

This is a cute book, and I think it gets the point across to a small child, but I did have higher hopes for it, so I was a little disappointed. I will keep looking for a book that better explains the allergy to my child, and how he can be proactive in dealing with it. I think this book is maybe better for a very young child who is first learning about his allergy. My child is 2 but I feel like he needs more than this book offers. Still, I think he'll like it.

excellent for toddler

We started reading this to our son when he was 2.5 yrs old. He's now 3 and really enjoys reading it with us. He looks at it like any of his other fun books and its helping us get across the whole peanut allergy concept to him. I especially like that it mentions foods that peanuts "hide" in like M and Ms since that's a food my peanut-allergic son would really like to have and we've had to say no.

About the Author
Dr. Subramanian Senthilkannan is currently working for SGS as a global sustainability consultant, based at Hong Kong. He gained his diploma, bachelors and masters in Textile Technology from premier institutes of India. He was awarded doctorate from The Institute of Textiles and Clothing of The Hong Kong Polytechnic University for his dissertation entitled,” Eco-functional Assessment of Grocery Shopping Bags” He also has more than seven years of industrial experience in textile manufacturing, testing and sustainability evaluation of textiles and clothing materials. He was an outstanding student throughout his studies and bagged numerous awards and medals including many gold medals in his study period. He has more than 75 academic publications in various textiles and environmental journals to his credit. Additionally he has 2 patents, 2 books of chapter and 13 books and numerous conference publications. He is acting as an editor, editorial board member and reviewer for many international peer-reviewed journals of textiles and environmental science disciplines.  He is the editor-in-chief of Textiles and Clothing Sustainability journal of Springer. Additionally, he is one of the directors of Textile and Bioengineering Informatics Society, (TBIS) which is a charitable organization created to foster, develop and promote all aspects of science and technology in bioengineering of materials, fibers and textiles. 
Miguel Angel Gardetti, Ph.D., has been the head of the Center for Study of Sustainable Luxury since its foundation in 2009. In this field, he has lectured at the IE Business School (Madrid, Spain), one of the top business schools in Europe. Moreover, he was a speaker at Identidad Uruguay, an event organised by the Universidad de Empresa (Montevideo), with a lecture on fashion, luxury, and sustainability. He was the creator of the Best Performance in Sustainable Luxury in Latin America Award at present evolving towards the IE Award for Sustainability in the Premium & Luxury Sectors at a global level. He has also developed several publications in the area of ​​sustainable luxury.
Miguel is a member of the United Nations Global Compact Promoting Group in Argentina and a member of its governance body―the Board of the Argentine Chapter of The Global Compact―for two consecutive terms. He was co-founder of the Global Compact Chair in Argentina, and he was also part of the task force that developed the ‘Management Responsible Education Principles’ of the United Nations Global Compact. 
He has also coordinated tasks for the Inter-American Development Bank, the International Finance Corporation (private sector arm of the World Bank), the Netherlands Development Organisation, the United Nations (New York), and the World Resources Institute (USA).

This paper will study the idea of how humor is best rendered in subtitles and evaluate selected techniques used in translating humorous excerpts of movies. The theoretical part of this paper comprised of two chapters will thoroughly study audiovisual translation, especially subtitling, Relevance Theory and humor with special focus on its translation. The practical part, which is the third chapter, will deal with translation techniques that I have selected from recent studies and, which is new in the field of translation study, will asses their application specifically in subtitling humor. To clarify, the chapter will exemplify and discuss the techniques a translator can use when translating humor. Crucial as the techniques are, I will look into their use within particular contexts. Their application will be illustrated by authentic excerpts taken from the recently produced box-office comedies Bridget Jones: The Edge of Reason, Love Actually and Scary Movie 3.
